Greece is the word…

Souvlaki was sort of average; pita and chicken. But the Griddled Cheese with Pistachios and Honey…like fried cheese only way better!!

Is Guineas Drought a dark beer?

Yup. The man said that, not Guinness Draught, and he didn’t know it’s the darkest beer on earth. I just assumed we all knew…

Anyway, Lobster and Scallop Fishermans Pie, a cheese and brown bread plate, and a Guinness were on tap for us at the Ireland booth of the Food and Wine Festival. Mmm Mmm good.

Jiko entrees

Jiko, is there a bad meal to be had? I know you think we are a couple of Disney shills, the Rush Limbaugh of foodies, but we arent. The flying fish have us one of the best meals we ever ate, then two of the most mediocre meals followed. We tried but we are easy. Fooled, fooled, can’t get fooled again. If I want mediocre I’ll pay for mediocre, but $200 for red lobster quality? No thanks. Back to Jiko… Kim’s duck was out freakin standing!!! My pot roast? Err, African shortrib? It was delicious. It was pot roast. I’ve had this dish before, it had African spices it was amazing. Tonight? It was an awesome potroast for one. I wish my moms potroast was this good, but alas, not what I expected. Luckily Kim’s duck was beyond expectations and the service was great.

Wild Boar, Pinotage, and Tuna, oh my!!!

Just finished apps at Jiko…Peaches, plantains and goat cheese salad; ahi tuna and avocado; and wild boar tenderloin with polenta…all to die for. I’d order 10 plates of boar for dinner!!! And an amazing waitress to boot (Dawn, not from Africa as many Jiko servers are) recommended the Warwick–awesome and screw top.

Catching Up

It’s been two months?! What have I been doing?

We’ve moved house, visited Michigan for a race, eaten at Prime steakhouse (where we learned Jake makes better steaks…heck, he makes the best steaks) and Pultneyville Grill, sleep trained Raddy, bought a car, and tried to plan our upcoming vacation.

We leave Sunday for Disney’s Food and Wine Festival without our baby boy. Our plans include eating, drinking, sleeping, and trying with all our might to not miss The Rad One.

We are also going to attempt some live blogging…we fail at planned blogging so spontaneous blogging might not work either! I last tried this in Italy where I learned how super stinky the WordPress app was. It seems to work better now but the proof will be in the pudding. Ideally with pictures!

The Pickle, Ice Cream, and Winni

Jake and I have had lunch everyday this week at what used to be “the pickle” (the Pultneyville Pickle, may it rest in peace, was an awesome deli with great cookies on a bike route along the lake). It’s now the Pultneyville Deli Co., so far an excellent replacement, if a bit disorganized in order taking and sandwich building (I’ll forgive them, they’re new!). The PDC is just 1.6 miles from our new house, and we’ve been painting and tearing out carpet and sanding cabinets and eating all of our meals at the deli.

Today was no different, around 1 we headed to the former pickle, I had a BLT on sourdough (they use thick cut bacon and cook it when you order the sandwich) and Jake had a reuben, plus two beers and huge peanut butter cookie for dessert. But that’s not the important part of this story. Winni (and her husband Bruce) is the important part.

As we walked inĀ  we noticed a couple of cyclists changing a tire on the patio. When we came back out to wait for our sandwiches they were still without a wheel on one bike, so Jake asked what was up. Turns out this was the first flat they’d had since North Dakota. That’s right, North Dakota. And that wasn’t even where they started. San Francisco. We are 3200 miles from San Francisco.

Fortunately for all of us Winni is keeping a most awesome blog about their travels across the country on bicycles. I started reading at the beginning tonight while nursing the wee Radichio before bed (total aside: what did people with small, cranky babies do before they had the internet in their hands? I assume they stared at the four walls while nursing or holding semi-sleeping babies…I read blogs, answer email and browse ebay). Winni is a great writer, reader, biker and ice cream lover. She’s even been known to have two ice cream stops in one day!! A woman after my own heart! Go read her now: winnicycle.blogspot.com!!

Passporter Guide to Disney = $1

Its the best guide book there is for Disney and you can get the 2010 edition for only $1 here! Why only $1? Because the new version is coming soon and this book will be considered outdated. While some things will be outdated (prices for example) for the most part the information is super helpful to anyone planning a trip.
